چکیده

In this supplement to formal class lectures, we develop the small signal models for metaloxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) technologies. Despite the exclusive focus on MOS technologies, the reader will surmise that the fundamental concepts and strategies of small signal modeling presented herewith are generally applicable to bipolar, III-V compound, and other semiconductor devices that offer an input port for signal application and an output port for signal responses. To this end, we shall assert that while the specific branch parameter values of the models we develop assuredly change as a function of the addressed device technology, the circuit topologies of virtually all small signal device models remain invariant with technology.

Biasing CMOS amplifiers using MOS transistors in subthreshold region

The implementation of large-valued floating resistive elements using MOS transistors in subthreshold region is addressed. The application of these elements to bias wideband AC coupled amplifiers is discussed. Simple schemes to generate the gate control voltages for the MOS transistors implementing large resistors so that they remain in high resistive state with large signal variations are discu...

A Micropower Multi Decade Dynamic Range Current-Mode True RMS-to-DC Converter

A log-domain current-mode true RMS-to-DC converter based on a novel synthesis of a simplified current-mode low pass filter and a two-quadrant squarer/divider is presented. The circuit employs floating gate MOS (FG-MOS) transistors operating in weak inversion region. The converter features low power(

Design of A Low Power Low Voltage CMOS Opamp

In this paper a CMOS operational amplifier is presented which operates at 2V power supply and 1uA input bias current at 0.8 um technology using non conventional mode of operation of MOS transistors and whose input is depended on bias current. The unique behaviour of the MOS transistors in subthreshold region not only allows a designer to work at low input bias current but also at low voltage. W...

Reprint — 1991 DARPA Workshop on Speech Recognition and Natural Language — p . 1 ANALOG IMPLEMENTATIONS OF AUDITORY MODELS Richard

The challenge of making cost-effective implementations of auditory models has led us to pursue an analog VLSI micro-power approach. Experiments with the first few generations of analog cochlea chips showed some of both the potential and the problems of this approach. The inherent exponential behavior of MOS transistors in the subthreshold or weakinversion region leads to nonlinear filter circui...
